Backhand Blue
is an independent active rock band built from the ground up with no label, no shortcuts, and two consecutive Billboard-charting singles to show for it.
Fronted by vocalist Macy Addis (Portsmouth, Ohio) and guitarist Eli Dykstra (Boyden, Iowa), the band has spent the past two years proving that the independent path can produce real radio results. "Decay" charted at #45 on Billboard Mainstream RockAirplay. "Digging My Grave" pushed that further, peaking at #32 Billboard, reaching Top40 at Mediabase and Top 20 at SMR, earning multiple Most Added honors, and sustaining active rotation across more than 40 U.S. markets. Each campaign built onthe last.
The audience data tells the same story. Across Spotify, the band has generated 50,700+ saves and 41,700+ fan-driven playlist adds, earned entirely without editorial support. Monthly listeners peaked near 42,000 during the "Decay" cycle and have held in the low-to-mid 20,000s between campaigns. The retention is real.On YouTube, the channel is approaching 1.3 million total views, with nearly 250,000 of those coming in Q1 2026 alone. Average view duration sits between 60 and 68 percent, well above platform norms.
Instagram more than doubled in Q1, growing from 4,500 to nearly 10,000 followers. TikTok has grown from 2,000 to nearly 9,000 followers over the past year.
The new single, "Grow a Pear" goes for radio adds April 28.
